Welcome to the 37th International System Safety Conference

The International System Safety Conference (ISSC) is the premier international training conference on System Safety.

Please join us for the 37th ISSC (ISSC37) from July 29th to August 2nd 2019 in Norfolk, VA for the world?s largest gathering of System Safety practitioners, trainers, and professionals.

ISSC37 is the annual event presented by the International System Safety Society, a non-profit organization supporting professionals utilizing system safety methodology throughout the world. We invite all who are interested in system safety to ISSC37. There will be paper, workshop, tutorial, and poster sessions from novice through advanced, with plenty of time available for networking and meeting new and old friends.

The theme for this year?s conference is "Journey to Excellence: System Safety

This year's focus is on training for both beginners to learn to utilize system safety methodology in their Journey to Excellence and for those more experienced safety professionals who want to discuss, explore and incorporate how others are effectively utilizing system safety in their on-going Journey to Excellence.

System Safety is the application of special technical and managerial skills to the systematic, forward-looking identification and control of hazards throughout the life cycle of a product, process or program. System Safety methodology is used in Product Design Safety, Process Safety Management, Functional Safety, Chemical Process Safety, Risk Management, Human Factors, Software Safety, Cyber safety/Cybersecurity, and Prevention Through Design.

Also this year, will be the continuation of the Initiatives started at ISSC37. The four (4) Initiatives are outlined below.

  • University Engineering Curriculums - Integrate System Safety concepts into all engineering curriculums
  • ISSS System Safety Engineering Standard - Guidance standard presenting the necessary and sufficient ?essence? of System Safety Engineering
  • System Safety Engineering Professional Certification - Provide some level of authoritative recognition and verification of SSE professional achievement and expertise
  • International System Safety Society Institute - Provide training and educational opportunities for system safety engineering professional development

Working meetings related to these initiatives will be held during the conference. These initiatives are vitally important as the need for experienced system safety practitioners increase exponentially in response to increasingly complex environments.  This is an ideal time to get involved.

The success of the initiatives is a team effort. An investment into these initiatives is an investment in the future. If you would like to help and support these initiatives, please contact us.
